I purchased this phone a itsy-bitsy over two months ago. Overall I'm quite overjoyed with it, though I do wish I had waited until the designate dropped and saved some $$! I've read many of the reviews and agree with many of the obedient ones, and can empathize with many of the not-so-good ones.

First of all, I reflect everyone assumes someone looking to seize this phone already knows about Skype, which I'm certain is usually suitable, BUT if you're irregular with Skype, be positive you visit www.skype.com first to catch out exactly what it is, and what it is going to cost you (if anything) to join and utilize the system. Different plans are offered such as talking to only other people on Skype. . . . Making calls to people on "regular" phones (fee based, but really cheap) . . . . and if you want to have your possess phone number so that anyone can call you (fees interested) . After reading a lot of reviews, I didn't view where anyone mentioned about what Skype actually is, so I wanted to acquire that out of the plot. This phone works with Skype, but you tranquil have to sign-up and capture what conception you would like, and that's where there could be fees. Also, you must have high-speed internet access to exercise this phone. . . BUT you can expend the phone without your computer being turned on, which is one of the main reasons for purchasing this phone. Now for the review. . . .

When I first got this phone, I had both a land line and Skype. I have since dropped the land line because I'm more than contented with the Skype service, especially due to how mighty $$ it's saving me (a ton, by the intention) . As Skype will inform you, they recommend you retain a land line, because Skype does not work with 911. I have a cell phone which works with 911, so I'm less unnerved about that and I live in a condo with lots of people around me. If 911 service is of a disaster, then you might want to hold the land line. When you position a call the phone will ask you if you want it to go through the land line or Skype. FYI, someone wrote that they were mild asked that even though they didn't have a land line, but I was able to change the settings and now the phone always uses Skype.

I agree with someone else who said that they conception that Skype was not as splendid as a land line, but better than a cell phone. Sometimes the quality is better than others with Skype, but again, I can live with that because of the cost savings.

I have Skype on my computer as well, and it's gargantuan that the phone will update when you add unique contacts to your computer and vice-versa. You can load all of the phone numbers from Outlook into Skype, and then it will load onto your phone. Really expansive feature.

As for the phone itself. . . well. . . yes, it is sleek, unique, etc. . . but I agree with someone else who said that it's kind of a harm because it's not like a "regular" phone receiver where you can acquire it against your shoulder and ear. Yes, you can spend a headset, and yes there is a speakerphone which I come by works quite well. But if you're not using either of those, it can be a bit of a harm holding the phone all the time. FYI, there is no volume control, and I really disapprove that. If you're the slightest bit hard-of-hearing, I would not recommend this phone. Though it's not difficult to utilize, it is more like using a cell phone. If you have Skype announce mail (fee-based feature) there is an icon on the phone to let you know that you have a message so that you can listen to it. The phone keeps a detailed log of all of the calls which came in, and also that you made. Someone mentioned that the phone does not have the best ring tone options, which I would agree with, but surely you can accept one that you'll be glad with. Oh. . . I don't know if this is composed the case, but my phone came only with a disc with the instructions. There wasn't a printed manual. I found one at the Philips website though. I HIGHLY recommend that you go to the Philips website and steal a peruse at the owners manual before you steal, unprejudiced so you know all of the details and what features this phone offers, which are quite a few. Once you come by to the Philips website, impartial do a search for VOIP8411B/37.

If you disapprove paying the phone company a ton of money for calls you probably aren't going to invent, Skype is a spacious service. You can perform unlimited phone calls within the U.S. and Canada for honest under $30. Out of country calls are extremely cheap. For example, I can call the U.K. for a bit over 2 cents per tiny.

So having a telephone you can count on to gain reasonably grand calls is principal. The Philips VOIP841 is not a perfect solution. The sound quality is somewhere between a cell phone and a land line. It's a bit better than the broken-down and not nearly as generous as the latter.

But for making and receiving calls from family and friends, it's gargantuan. And it will pay for itself hastily and do you a ton of money on your phone bill.

I even exercise mine for business calls overseas and many times within the U.S.

With Skype, you can accomplish conference calls. So business users will collect this of interest.

Although the phone allows you to form Skype or land line calls, the land line is no better or worse than the Skype line. In fact, I contain the Skype calls may be somewhat better on this phone.

I do procure there is a cramped amount of static on my Skype to land line calls at times. Not enough to acquire the calls abominable. But you'll behold it. And it's not always there. Calls are dependent on your connection and the traffic.

In addition, the phone is not especially comfortable in your hand. At least I don't believe so. It's too microscopic and not shaped well. You have to maintain it a definite arrangement to hear well.

The speaker works quite well. I can hear the other person very well on the speaker. The other person says it's not as reliable on their kill. But it's a advantageous feature to have. The tranquil feature is also apt to have.

So if you're looking for a just land line replacement, this is not it. Of course, Skype will shriek you that you can't invent 911 calls. So most people want this for a second line anyway.

I like to notice my costs. And one set you can expend device too distinguished money is with the phone company. So I gash my land line service to the bare bones (I like having 911 and the option to have determined calls) and I have a great cell phone idea. Added to that this phone and Skype and I establish a ton of money. I signed up with Total International for long distance on my land line. So for me, that combination works enormous.

The phone is feature rich. It does have some bugs. And I found that customer service doesn't know mighty more about the phone than I do. They're of very runt benefit. And the documentation is awful. They do have a decent FAQ on their Web area and you can accept some answers. Plus, Skype has an active forum with lots of folks who employ this phone. So there's abet there too.

But having said all that, I recommend this phone for people who expend or idea to employ Skype for a lot of long distance or PC to PC calls. I query within a few years someone will approach out with a phone that is a just solution. Until then, I'm joyful I bought this phone and I really delight in the savings it provides me with.

I doubt you'll acquire a better Skype phone at this time and this one enjoys high ratings from most reviewers who review for a living.

Update: July 21, 2007

After using this phone for several weeks, I can allege you I'm blissful I made the take. It's worry-free and very actual. Making Skypeout calls are quite positive, regardless of where you call. The landline, however, is not too obliging. So I don't utilize it for a landline at all.

I've never had any dropped calls or any problems and I've former the phone a lot. I pay Skype less than $30 per year for unlimited calls in the U.S. and Canada and sustain a itsy-bitsy in my sage for overseas calls. I talked to London for five or six minutes and it only cost me a nickel.

I ordered a Skype desk phone for my office to employ along with this one. But it's not portable. I also read in The Wall Street Journal that there is a unique type of VOIP calling coming out in September, called Ooma, which may demonstrate to be a better deal. I'll be checking into that and buying the unit.

So, in summary, I've been very tickled with this phone and it's worth the mark. I continue to highly recommend it.

The phone is pleasing in high gloss dismal ... puts Belkin and Linksys offerings to shame, but finger prints remove a lot of inconvenience to seize. Fit and effect are suitable and it's nice that Philips included all the valuable cables (ethernet and regular phone) . Yes there is a mini jack that accepts a headset (my Panasonic works) and here is volume output that is finally loud enough for me. For some reason, the jack plot is about 1/8" too rude for the headset to remain plugged in when you return the phone to the charging cradle. I can't screech if this is deliberate or a do oversight. Handset batteries are a pair of standard AAA NiMH--good because replacements are cheap and easy to win, but I can't attend but reflect the talk time would be more with a custom battery. We'll glimpse.

Navigation is decent--no confusion if you know your plot around a cell phone. The cloak is easy to read but, like a cell phone, the contact list is only about 11 characters wide so long names are truncated. Philips makes the selected contact name scroll like a ticker, but it would be nice to objective to eye more of the name to start with. Setup for me into a Linksys router was effortless.

I was a Skype user before I bought this phone so the first thing I miss is the ability to conference several contacts in to a single call I am hosting. I'm finding that Skype on my Mac detached works (login with same username) so I can enter contacts on my keyboard and they update the handset a couple of minutes later. However, I do peruse that sometimes my active contacts are grayed out on my Mac, possibly because the handset was off hook recently and has not released control. Sound quality is a petite tinny compared to Skype on a Mac with a hard wired USB headset, but smooth splendid.

If I had one wish, that would be a menu option to originate all the land line features travel. As it stands, I can dial the number to a regular phone but have to bewitch SkypeOut or land line when I residence the call. Since I don't have a land line, this is an extra step for me each time (This doesn't apply to numbers already entered into my Skype contact list) .

All in all I am very delighted. The phone looks awesome and belongs in the MoMA, and I am saving a top-notch chunk of change by terminating my land line. BTW, since I have a cell phone that gets me 911, I doesn't bother me that Skype doesn't provide this.

The resolution and size of the cover on this camera is absolutely unbelievable. Pictures and video spy really bewitching. Cover is anti-reflective too. HD video is outstanding. Taped a table tennis match, the video and sound was extremely sure and the movement was incredibly unruffled, due to the 30 fps. I am not so impressed with camera's auto mode, while indoors, yet. Colors were off, maybe due to the white balance and shameful light. I accumulate myself using the "P" mode mostly and making miniature adjustments to the white balance and adjusting the "my colors" portion. Overall its a comely looking camera and feels honorable in the hands. I like the two tone color plot. You have to gaze your fingers, on your left, hand so they don't block the flash, it's very easy to do.

Update: Digital Zoom.

Most people recount you to disable digital zoom because of the resolution degradation when using it, however on this camera the digital zoom is improbable, with very small resolution degradation seen and digital zoom can be frail while in Video mode.

Update Foliage Program mode,8/2009:

I have been using the foliage mode for outdoor scenic shots lately. In this mode the greens, blues, are brilliantly enhanced making scenic pics pop out with radiant color, some may like or despise for the colors do not picture the just colors viewed. For me this mode is cold, especially if the light your shooting in is not moral, this mode will brighten the colors and execute your photo less unimaginative. I recommend previewing each shot before you fade on to originate definite the colors are not too saturated. I found that as the light changes this may happen.

This review is to back those who are deciding between Canon SD970 and Canon SD960.

.................SD970......SD960......Comment

Optical zoom...5x..........4x..........Plus

LCD size.........3"..........2.8"........plus

LCD dot ......461k........230k.........Huge plus

Zoom Blur......yes ........no..........no

The 5x optical zoom makes the represent 50% larger. So, I judge it is a great improvement. However, it is offset by the wider angle lens of SD960.

The LCD size and resolution are a very respectable improvement. Although it is 3" vs 2.8", the loyal camouflage sizes are quite different because SD970 has 4:3 aspect ratio and SD960 has 2:1 aspect ration. For normal 4:3 pictures, SD960 can only expend 2/3 of shroud to note the narrate while SD970 uses all hide. With twice many pixels, you can notion the pictures quite well. It is almost better than most of diminutive stand-alone record frames in the market. I actually can employ SD970 as a very comfortable reading glasses for the blooming print on the medicine bottle. I played one SD960 in a store and I can not examine whether the portray was in focus very well.

The zoom blur did not beget ample pictures, although it was fun to do.

I reflect the label inequity (~$65) is a dinky bit gargantuan for the performance contrast. But, I do devour the differences.

Other comments:

(1) mini-HDMI cable: I was not aware how colossal the HDMI feature is until I bought one cable from a local store. It is a expansive experience that many people can notion the crawl note and HD video on your HDTV. Although I complained about how expensive the cable was. But, the experience justifies the take of the cable. I bought a cheaper 3rd party HDMI cable and it works well.

(2) Sound quality of HD video:

I guess Canon engineers fair did not have room to achieve the microphone at the front surface of the camera, they keep it on the top which can be easily covered by your fingers. But, the more annoying philosophize is that, because the top surface is tilting backward, your grunt becomes mighty louder than the people in front of you. In addition, you need to manufacture distinct your hands do not rub the camera when shooting. Otherwise, noise will be generated.

If you zoom when shooting video, the camera performs only digital zoom. And, it will portray a quite noticeable noise when the zoom action stops.

Overall, I serene rate this camera 5 stars because it is well designed and built. The user interface is better than my 4-year-old Canon S3 IS and is

far better than other brands.

Finally, it was very humorous to notice how hard my brother-in-law had to try to present his >$5000 Canon 5D dSLR is quiet a far better camera than this cramped thing. Yes, my SD970 lost in most of recount quality categories. But, it did not lose without a decent fight. At the kill, my sister-in-law is thinking of buying a SD970. So, it lost a battle but won a heart!!

SD970 is a camera for two person, one want to honest point and shoot for precious moments and one wants to spend the program mode to perform mountainous pictures.

First off, be aware this camera comes with no memory card, so unless you want to be like the kid that got a battery-powered toy for Christmas, and no batteries, opinion ahead! Also, the A/V cable included is for standard RCA video inputs, which is resplendent, since almost everyone has something to budge that into, but for the HD output, you'll need the optional Mini-HDMI Cable. I've tried both cables, and if you have an HD TV, you'll want the HDMI cable.

The manual is glowing brief; it omits some information such as how to situation the "owner name" in the camera (hint: spend the "Camera Window" software and click on the magic icon in the upper lawful corner), and how to upload custom startup images and sounds for the camera operations. The manual was obviously not proofread by a native English speaker, and many parts divulge you what a setting is, but not how to acquire to that feature. There appears to be about 3 different types of menus, depending on the mode.

Now for the clean stuff! There are 3 modes, video, camera, and auto; the main differences between camera and auto are that auto mode trys to figure out everything; and does a lovely salubrious job. Portrait? Landscape? No predicament. The camera mode lets you fiddle with everything, and has several preset modes for well-liked situations, and for fine-tuning things like white balance, and ISO hasten. These various "Program" features have an auto-preview of the achieve when browsing through the menu choices, which is a nice touch.

You cannot dwelling aperture priority nor shutter priority, but you can give it some hints to approximate this; there is a "kids & pets" mode that obviously is high shutter rush priority.

I've taken about 100 images in the last couple days, and have been very elated with the results. The digital zoom image quality is wonderful. I needed to employ a tripod on a cloudy day when the effective zoom was 20x, but the resulting image showed no jaggies at all. The macro focus worked so well, that when I tried to depart the camera a itsy-bitsy closer in, the lens hit the sidewalk!

Viewing photos and videos on the camera is shapely easy. It will automatically group photos into categories based on the auto mode (portrait, etc.) or you can set aside photos into categories manually, to filter what you want to glance. The "shake" design to approach from one photo to the next didn't work too well for me; I had to give it a aesthetic satisfactory shake, and I couldn't seem to have it go backward. The auto-rotate feature for viewing photos taken in portrait orientations works enormous.

The video function works easy and you can upload the videos to your PC (in .mov format), and the software can convert it to .avi format also.

I beget lots of De Walt tools, but I have noticed a serious topple in their ability to beget a durable cordless drill recently. There is no doubt that De Walt have radiant ideas, and their products, on paper, are very impressive, and push the boundaries of what you put a question to a tool can do for you. I realy like their cordless nailers (I have two!) However, this drill has some serious invent flaws.

Be aware that the front torque selector, spindle, gearbox and a weighty Jacobs keyless chuck (I do like Jacobs chucks) are held inside the clamshell by...by... a plastic set ring groove in the clamshell body, that ring grips the gearbox, and which measures no more than 1/16th or 2mm in indent depth. Consequently, let your tool heat up, or exhaust it under torquey conditions and guess what? The entire front housing loosens up. On my drill I can score the chuck housing to go an 1/8th or more (depending on how hot the plastic is) in any direction, yet the clamshell is gripped firmly and doesn't disappear at all! Other than this inadequet plastic groove the frameless motor had position slit outs in its magnet body to try and stabilise the front demolish, but since the motor is only held in situation by the pressure of the screwbolts holding the clamshell shut this feature is microscopic in what it can attain. Maybe i've fair got a dudd, but i doubt that this drill issufficiently well engineered for the trade/contractor market, which is a shame. Let's hope De Walt realise and redesign this into a really decent bit of kit that can rival the Japanese blue tools that I will be using from now on for cordless drills.

Substantial DRILL. BUILT TOO LAST. THIS WILL Waste A LOT OF ARGUMENTS OVER WITCH TOOL MANUFACTURERS ARE BETTER. ITS ALL WHATS INSIDE THAT COUNTS. SOMETIMES MAKING SOMETHING LIGHTER IS NOT THE BETTER TOOL. THINGS Salvage SACRIFICED. LOTS OF PLASTIC IN LIGHT WEIGHT THINGS TODAY. KEPT IT HEAVY DUTY.

This one will last even longer. Best feature is it stands up on its battery, the LED light is stout and it comes with 2 batteries. Why no photo on Amazon? I spotted it in Lowes and tracked the number serve to Amazon. My only complaint is the chuck loosens up after a while. Not a spacious quandary and will probable net better with exhaust. I give it 5-stars

I veteran to sell dishwashers at Sears. I've owned several built in fleshy sized dishwashers, even a stainless steel Bosch. This is the first one I am 'giddy' over.

I recently downsized to proceed to Manhattan, which meant getting a microscopic kitchen with no dishwasher. After months of sink washing, I broke down and bought this (Actually, a house guest felt sorry for me, and got it for me after I mentioned I was about to prefer it) . But not without reading all the specs and reviews. I bought it from eTronics (I've bought from them before) and was gay with the customer service (so far) . They had the best sign (no delivery charge, as they have a local store too) .

After unpacking and inspection, I concluded that it was built with the same specs as the top of the line Kenmore (which I feeble to sell) . It has a do fitting stainless steel interior, mechanical controls (which, IMO, are better than electronic on a machine that gets wet alot), well fitting seals, and stable casters. The interior is Plump size depth and height, honest 6 inches narrower in width (Another trace, which I viewed on the station, was NOT nearly as deep, and had rickety trays) . The upper tray has two height settings, but I found the lower setting is not suited for standard size dishes to fit below. The trays fit well, perhaps a bit too snug, but we'll view if they loosen up with exercise. The tines are spaced a bit discontinuance together for my taste, but after a washing, it appears the 1805 can handle dishes so end together. There is a lower spray arm, middle spray arm and top sprayer (non-spinning) . The food filters and heating element in the sinister are sturdy and well made. Complaint: The hose hook-up are 6 feet long (apparently that is measured from inside the relieve where they connect to the machine, as they seemed too short and the 1805 must be proper up against the sink counter to hook-up.

I've never had a portable before, and (with the exception of my dear grandmother) always looked down on them. This one looks solid and has shapely lines in any kitchen. On the rear panel, however, you will discover a few (covered) rivets and seams, along with the black-plastic lined hose receptable, and serial tags. Unless you store it against a wall, you will stare these protrusions. It should fit in with all your other appliances without standing out.

The standard load time took about 45 minutes to hurry. The machine attaches easily to your faucet, though you do have to replace your areator with an adapter that produces a narrower stream of water from the faucet when the DW is not in exhaust. I've only broken-down the "economy" cycle, which worked astronomical, but there are also Pots and Pans, Stunning, and Rinse only cycles. Additionally, the Comely cycle can have a no heat option, and the Pots and Pans can have an extra boost option. It heats the water steaming hot.

Very Level-headed. Though not as calm as the Bosch I owned (which I deem is quieter than a Meile), it was as tranquil as my Kitchen Serve. It was definitely quieter than all the plastic tub models out there.

Though hardly faded, I have experienced NO leaks. This even was operated on a non-level floor. My building is 110 years faded and the floors are VERY slanted and swelled. This was my biggest effort. After each cycle, I took my flashlight and looked underneath for any signs of water....none. (My neighbors below would not delight in an un-requested shower) .

I am a penny-pincher, and stressed over the seize. Not because of the label, but because of the value for the imprint. I couldn't own that such an inexpensive dishwasher could instruct like this one has.

I can seriously say that this dishwasher outperforms dishwashers at twice its notice. It carries an in-home 1 year warranty, but I always like stores like Sears where if you complain enough they rob it help without any questions. So this was a bit of a leap, as Danby relies on authorized service centers (of which I hope I will never spend) .

After gripping from a home with an under the counter dishwasher, to a home without a dishwasher, and no under the counter set to keep one, it didn't rob very long handwashing dishes before I had to earn a solution. I searched high and vulgar for a "portable" dishwasher, and finally came across Danby. I ordered it, waited for delivery, and have now been using it for about 2 months. I have to say this thing cleans BETTER than my under the counter dishwasher at my weak house. Because it is portable, I can even exercise it as a kitchen island! Two of the lower wire racks fold down so you can neat gargantuan pots, pans, etc. I would recommend this to anyone with no dwelling to set an under the counter dishwasher. Only precaution....be careful attaching the hose to your faucet. If you push the connector too far down, the ball bearings will advance out, and they are not easy to collect relieve in position.

I can't possess I spent my life hand washing dishes! Living in an older home with a miniature kitchen means losing precious cabinet situation when installing a dishwasher. I never concept a dishwasher was really necesary, but I recently noticed my hand washing was not getting the dishes smart, so I broke down and bought the Danby. The thing is compact, but ample enough to do the dishes of two people (we let the dishes salvage for a couple of days to allow for a elephantine load) . It cleans dishes like crazy - even those coffee cups that had what I plan were permanent coffee stains - they came out stunning white. I don't deem they were EVER that white! The hoses are a bit on the short side, but who wants to string hoses distinct across the kitchen anyway? I AM SOLD ON THIS PORTABLE DISHWASHER. It does a better job than some built ins I have witnessed in other homes. The only negative? It was packed in a box half filled with those styrofoam packing peanuts. I'm collected chasing those damn things all over the house!

I live out in a rural place, completely off the grid. My main power supply is directly dependant on this one item and out of all the things that have gone corrupt in my remote site, this item has held to its claim.

Not long ago, my backup generator burnt out and getting a replacement fragment for it has been an adventure. However, in accordance with the claims of this product, I plugged in my car (Nissan Sentra), using a couple of jumper cables, to my batteries (3 RV Batteries) . Using some favorite sense and practicality, I was able to live at my home using this way, quite comfortably, for a few weeks until I was able to fix things.

On another occasion, an electrical short in my home caused my electrical system to go a miniature haywire. This product held in, sounding alarms and whistles, and once the plight was taken care of, this miniature item held in there without a jam.

Living off the grid is an experience and not for honest anyone, but this product has made it a whole lot easier.

On a side sign, please discover that this inverter uses a MODIFIED SINE WAVE. Do a exiguous research on that before purchasing. Although I have had no unexpected problems, there are calm some things you should be aware of before committing to using it.

Also, this inverter (as any would) uses a litte bit of electricity to function, including its cooling fan (not always running, but enough to utilize some power) and with the generator off, I've rush down my batteries a time or two objective by having it on.

Before attempting to hook this product up to a home electrical system, I strongly recommend some heavy research into how a circuit breaker box works. With a puny research, some minor adjustments, and a lot of know-how, I was able to sprint this intention directly into an electrical socket and power my home through it.
